How did we go from Godzilla Karaoke down Sump Pump Karaoke?!!!
I suppose the three day early warning for flash floods that many of us received on our smartphones and PDA’s did the trick. I am sure that Homedepot and all the grocery stores of the DMV area made a ton of cash. As for me, what I had hoped to be awesome night on DuPont Circle, turned out to be an awesome night after all.
I arrived early to The Big Hunt to prep and to get the equipment and up and running on time and to iron out any kinks, noise distortions and nuisances. All the key players were on board, like AJ (Bartender- T-Pain or somebody), Gotta have the bartender. And very thankful for Christine/Christina (Super Server). We cracked jokes and had a good convo before show time. I quickly glanced over the crowd and saw that Dave and Shelly were there. So, it’s safe to say a few regulars were sprinkled about the place. To my surprise, we had two great groups to show up.
The first group I had passed by on the sidewalk. Not giving much thought that they would come to The Big Hunt, but secretly hoping that that would. Okay, confession. I saw a cutie in the group. I had just unloaded most items for the show and ran back to the car for another piece of equipment. Lo and behold, there they were like an ice cold 6 pack of Coronas sitting there in a booth. Yeah, boyeeeeee! I kept working away and hoping that old cutie would see my plumbers butt as I ran and connected cables to equipment. Got on my knees to do this or that. Squatted down to do one thing or another. Oh well, you get my meaning. Burt, the ring leader of the 6 pack, approached me and said, “do you have blah, blah, blah.” I said, “of course I do.” He went on to say, “put that down for Amanda.” Now mind you I didn’t know Burt was truly with the group until my eyes followed him back to the booth. Man, did I get happy (Pharrell, where are you?)! By my second Corona (no kidding), I got the courage to be a little frisky so throughout the show I would walk up on cutie and say, “Did you find a song ” (real sexy, right?). I did that like 10 times. Anywho, I didn’t get the date but they were from Guatemala.
Now the show was in full swing and we had a good run of singers and repeat singers. Everybody appeared to be in a somber mood. The torrential down pour that began didn't help matters but it really hurt too much. The crowd was always moderate in size throughout the night and we held on to what we had. Last night, I met Jackie. She had just moved to Washington, D.C. I met her friends and with the help of the Bartender (echo), I got them 3 fireball shots. Also, Shelly had just graduated and has a degree in something good (I’m sure = 3 shots of fireball). A lot of little things just kept adding up to one big wonderful night.
Just when I felt the need for time to speed up (old man getting tired), the group from Las Vegas popped up literally out of nowhere. I looked around and there they were singing and drinking and snapping pictures. Woody and Tina did the singing mostly but the entire crew were as engaging and fun loving as could be. In my heart of hearts I wanted to fly off to Vegas with them. They tipped me generously for karaoke (which I smiled and beamed thinking of what bill to pay) and I said thank you. Let’s face it, when they nearly shove it down your throat, you might as well swallow (Heehehehee). They were nice and we did manage to make the best of a stormy night due the quiet yet fiery energy in the bar.
Thank you Amanda, Burt, Woody, Greta, Tina, The Stewart/Steward girls, Shelly, Dave, A friend of Shelly and Dave’s, Team Guatemala, and Team Vegas, Mike, Michael, Chris (2 guys that just popped in and sang), and to all that came out to party with us.
Thank you Thomas for checking the sound and making sure that I was okay.
